Mission Statement
Empowering survivors of domestic violence in a Transitional Living Center with tools for Self-Sufficiency
Description
Who We Serve:
We serve women and children victims of domestic violence/intimate partner abuse. The only eligibility requirement for participation in TLC’s residential program is that a woman has made the decision to permanently leave a domestic violence relationship and has become homeless as a result of this choice.
What We Do:
TLC House Indiana provides safe and secure communal housing in a three bedroom home for up to 11 individuals at a time. The organizations’ mission statement is to empower survivors of domestic violence in a Transitional Living Center with tools for self-sufficiency. Therefore, in addition to safe housing, TLC staff and volunteers provide support groups, educational workshops and a variety of community resources that are intended to promote self-sufficiency in terms of our clients’ personal assets; building self-worth/independency, improving financial conditions/employable skills, and identifying healthy relationships. By obtaining self-sufficiency- physically, emotionally, and financially- women are far less likely to return to environments wherein they are dependent upon an abusive individual to meet their needs.
