We are Arizona's First STEM College and Career Pathway School for students with autism. Recent figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show one in 59 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism. Eighty (80) percent of individuals with autism are under 22 and will create a challenge for Metro Phoenix companies who will be unprepared to employ thousands of young adults who will enter the workforce.
As educators, watching parents of children with Autism who are transitioning out of high-school and into a college or career has been tough. There is a huge disconnect between what students with Autism at Arizona schools are getting out of their therapy, academic and social curriculum and what they need to be successful at getting and retaining a career. This is the reason why local educators, therapists, and community leaders decided to create Science Prep Academy.
