FOOD: Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive with Heaven's Windows

Be a part of ending hunger in San Diego and participate in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in cities across America collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers, who participate. Volunteers at the Post Office in Spring Valley will retrieve donated food from the post office mail carriers and place it in large bins to be delivered to the Heaven's Windows warehouse. Volunteers at the Heaven's Windows warehouse will check canned and dry goods for expiration dates and sort them into categories. By supporting this event, you will help Heaven's Windows receive tons of donated food to distribute back into the community through their partner organizations and food pantries. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Comfortable, closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. This opportunity takes place both indoors and outdoors. Bring: Sunglasses and sun protection such as a hat and sunscreen. Gloves if needed. Physical Ability: This opportunity will require lifting up to 30 pounds, bending, and standing. This project is only able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations at the Heaven's Windows warehouse by providing chairs and a canopy for shade. The space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible. Weather: This event will not be cancelled due to rain or inclement weather, it will take place rain or shine. FOOD: Food Distribution Program

Heaven's Windows' Food Distribution Program is located in their warehouse facility. They receive donated food supplies there for processing, packaging, and distribution to their food pantry and partner agencies. Volunteers help by processing donated fresh, frozen, canned, and prepared food. Volunteers also help with loading and unloading food products. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. Wear clothes that you don't mind get dirty. Gloves are available. Masks are mandatory. Physical Requirements: Bending, lifting at least 20-40 lbs., standing Weather: This project is not cancelled for rain. FOOD: Restocking Food Pantry

Heaven's Windows' food pantries distribute the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) food commodities funded by the USDA and facilitated by the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Volunteers are needed to help restock their food pantry so Heaven's Windows can store monthly inventories. Volunteers will help by unloading trucks, stocking shelves, and inventorying the food items. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Closed-toe shoe are required Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 40 lbs. Unfortunately this project space is not wheelchair accessible and not able to make accomodations for individuals with physical limitations.
