The mission of Housing Assistance Corporation is to promote and implement the right of all people on Cape Cod and the islands to occupy safe and affordable housing.
For 25 years Housing Assistance Corporation has worked to stabilize individuals and families on Cape Cod and the islands through programs that focus on housing opportunities. We provide a continuum of services, including emergency shelters for individuals, families, first-time mothers with infants and toddlers, and families recovering from substance abuse; transitional housing for individuals leaving shelter; and permanent supportive housing for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse. Supportive services for our shelter guests are provided at the O'Neill Services Center and include health care, housing search, employment search, and mental health and substance abuse counseling. Project Prevention provides funds for back rent and mortgage arrearages. HAC administers about 900 rental subsidies for the region and provides first-time home buyer training and counseling through the Cape Home Ownership Center. We provide home repair and weatherization services, and we have developed hundreds of units of affordable housing. Our Family Self-Sufficiency program helps families set and reach goals that lead to personal and economic independence, and Saving For Assets is a matched savings program that includes economic literacy workshops and has home ownership as the goal. For people transitioning from public assistance, Wheels to Work provides low cost car loans so individuals can get to their jobs. HAC is rich in volunteers and community support and receives funding from government sources, private donations, and national foundations.
