Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Humanitarian Service Project to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty brings to seniors and children in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois, without discrimination or exclusion for any reason.

Description

Through our three programs, HSP provides life changing support to impoverished seniors, children, and families throughout DuPage and Kane. These programs are:

Senior Citizen Project - Provides nutritious groceries on a monthly basis to the elderly. Each senior receives a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishables, bread, paper products, hygiene items and a small gift from their "Secret Pal" donor.

Children’s Project- Provides children with nutritional support at critical times of the year to combat hunger and food insecurity. Children ages 3 to 11 also receive a birthday box filled with gifts, books, schools supplies and party supplies.

Christmas Offering- Provides nutritious groceries and Christmas presents to 1900+ children and 135+ seniors living in poverty. Over 22 tons of food and 10,000+ gifts are distributed during December.

Not only was volunteering for this particular event through HSP extremely rewarding the employees made everything so easy. I was given clear instructions on which person recieved which box and bag, they also even included directions for each location! Everyone was so nice and polite it made the whole experience more worthwhile. Add that on to seeing the smiles on the receivers faces made me want to do this again!
