TENNIS AND TUTORING PROGRAM

Description

Since 2008, Tennis and Tutoring has provided safe afterschool programming for students in underserved communities, providing access to athletic training, mentorship, and academic support. Our classroom staff are licensed educators and the pros on the court are dedicated to and receive special training to teach the lifelong game of tennis to young people. High School students serve as volunteer tutors both in the classroom and on the court.

Our organization is proud to be an NJTL (National Junior Tennis and Learning) program that is supported with funding and professional development support from the USTA. With their support, we have recently expanded our program from one to three sites, now serving 60 students two days per week during the school year.

We also acknowledge the need to help our students and community have affordable access to tennis courts in order to encourage healthy play in our neighborhoods. This is why we are launching a summer "Family Play Day" program at Liberty Park Tennis Center in 2017. The first event is from 12-3 on May 7. Pros, volunteers, and staff will be on hand to help families and kids get started playing this challenging, fun, and health-benefitting game.
