After-School All-Stars (ASAS) Puget Sound provides free, comprehensive after-school programs that keep students safe and help them succeed in school and life. Our vision is for our All-Stars to be healthy, graduate high school, pursue college, find careers they love and give back to their communities. With a special focus on middle schoolers, we fuel our students’ individual passions by tailoring program activities to align with their interests--cultivating a holistic and supportive after-school environment.
Launched in Fall 2016, ASAS Puget Sound is the newest chapter of After-School All-Stars, one of the largest school-based after-school providers network in the country. Our holistic, culturally responsive programming model was designed to effectively close the opportunity gap for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Research shows that a combination of academics, enrichment activities, and healthy lifestyles improves student achievement significantly more than academics alone, therefore we structure our programs around all three to best equip our students for success. We also use the following strategic program initiatives as an innovative framework to address the issues most adversely affecting our youth and their communities:
"We Are Ready" prepares 8th graders for success through high school readiness and college exploration activities;
"Career Exploration Opportunities" prepares students to thrive in the 21st century workplace and inspires long-term future planning;
"Sports as a Hook" helps students become healthy and empowered through connecting athletics to lessons on leadership, teamwork, gender equality and environmental stewardship; and
"Life Service Action" develops students’ sense of social responsibility and civic awareness as they design and lead their own community service projects.
