The LSUR team was founded in 1966 to respond to the increasing need for body and property recoveries in the Jackson County area. All members are non-paid volunteers, and are extensively trained in underwater rescue work. All funding for the team is received by donations, fund-raising, and governmental grants. All volunteer members are required to provide their own personal SCUBA gear. The team averages 140 incidents per year requiring deployment for evidence, missing persons, body, vehicle, aircraft, weapons searches and recoveries.
