Mission Statement

The Power of We AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

Description

The Power of We AmeriCorps VISTA Program emphasizes the importance of professional development and the personal growth of each member of its team. We strive to create an exceptional AmeriCorps experience for our members by providing them with the necessary guidance and support needed to foster an environment where they are challenged to constantly learn. Each member in our program is passionate about some area of community development and are aware of the importance of the work that they are doing for our neighborhoods and its residents in Ingham County.

Members commit to serving full time from July 2017throughJuly 2018. AmeriCorps VISTA members each receive a living allowance, an education award or end-of-service stipend at the completion of the service term, and loan forbearance for qualified student loans. There is also a health care and a childcare option. Additionally, AmeriCorps members are eligible to apply for assistance through the health department.
