Mission Statement

To get things done for children by recruiting community tutors for 700 struggling readers in area elementary schools.

Description

As one of 15 sites in the state of Washington, the Yakima County Substance Abuse Coalition hosts Washington state's America Reads initiative, called the Washington Reading Corps. Our team of 20 AmeriCorps and VISTA volunteers recruit and train community volunteers to assist area schools in providing one-on-one tutoring to struggling readers.
