Volunteers welcome community members into Fix-it Nights, answering any general questions about Fix-it Nights, determine if the broken item is viable for a fix, help with sign-in and help with setup and breakdown. This role occurs during Fix-it Nights which are Thursday 4pm - 5:30pm. Greeters should expect to arrive 30 minutes early for set up and stay 30 minutes after for breakdown. We are seeking skilled fixers to repair items at our weekly Fix-it Nights. If you like figuring out how things work and taking things apart, come have fun with us! We are a group that likes to collaborate, learn things together and mentor those who have an interest. We need fixers with expertise in repairing small appliances, electrical items such as lamps and vacuums, furniture, clothing and textiles for mending, electronics, computers, jewelry and eyeglasses, toys and tools. We are looking for a volunteer that can repair computers and phones. These are items that the public have an interest in getting fixed. We are able to provide any tools and supplies to support the fixing of computers and phones. Fixers can bring their own equipment and tools. We will provide small supplies and some tools. Fixers are volunteers who are not expected to have answers for every fix. This role occurs during Fix-it Nights which are Thursday 4pm - 5:30pm. Fixers should arrive 15 minutes early and should expect to stay 15 minutes after closing. During Tool Lending Service hours, volunteers are responsible for building tool reservation orders, checking tools in and out, inspecting and reshelving tools, writing maintenance tickets, and general customer service including phone support to the public and members alike. Suggested skills for this position include: Customer service: talking with people, listening to and understanding questions and problems, providing information about TTL from memory or finding it efficiently from other staff or our website, etc. Computer/tech literacy (esp. using a touch-screen tablet) Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to lift 30 lbs easily (not necessary, but helpful) Volunteer perks include a free one-year membership and early access to tools.

Description
The library provides low cost access to shared tools and other durable goods, and encourages re-use, repair, and reduced consumption. In addition, it hosts a safe community space for learning how to use household tools, and empowers Tacoma residents to care for their homes and neighborhoods, house by house and block by block.
Want to borrow tools? It’s easy and low-cost to become a member. Members can borrow any of our 1,700+ available tools-everything from hammer drills to hand weeders-for a week with no charge. Use the tools, clean them, and return them to the library when you’re done. That’s it!
