Mission Statement

The Business Association of West Parkside (BAWP) encourages, supports and promotes emerging and existing businesses in the greater West Parkside region. We facilitate relationships between businesses located in, doing business in, or doing business with other companies located in West Parkside. The BAWP further advocates for the business community at the state and local level, ensuring the needs and concerns of our membership are heard.

Description

The Business Association of West Parkside (BAWP) was formed in 1987 to meet the needs of businesses located in the Commonwealth designated West Parkside Enterprise Zone. BAWP successfully lobbied for the development of: the ParkWest Town Center, the relocation of the SEPTA bus turn around, and the relocation of the Please Touch Museum, just to name a few. We were involved with the initial planning for the Centennial District and continue to be a voice, whenever plans are being solidified, for this business community needs.

The Philadelphia Stars Negro League Memorial Park was developed by the BAWP and we continue to be responsible for its up keep and maintenance. Every April 15th, Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, we celebrate the history of Negro League ball and Jackie Robinson at the Memorial Park.

Over more than thirty years we have seen the reality and the perception of West Parkside and the Centennial District transform this area. BAWP’s history demonstrates what can happen with a true
collaboration of Businesses, community, and government.
