To support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.
STAR, formerly the Rape Crisis Center, was established in 1975 to serve sexual assault survivors and their loved ones in the Greater Baton Rouge community. For the first 36 years, STAR operated as a division of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office. In 2011 the Rape Crisis Center became STAR, which incorporated into a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the Louisiana Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in order to expand services to surrounding parishes, increase education and outreach efforts, and ensure confidentiality with our clients as a separate non-governmental entity. STAR now offers services to the entire Capital Region, including Ascension, East Feliciana, East Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana Parishes. In 2015, STAR opened an office in New Orleans to expand the geographic reach of our services. In 2016, STAR expanded to Central Louisiana where we now serve Avoyelles, Grant, Rapides, and Vernon parishes.
STAR is a non-profit organization operating in the Central Louisiana, Greater Baton Rouge, and New Orleans areas to provide free, confidential support to survivors of sexual assault. Our services include:
24/7 Hospital Advocacy
Criminal Justice Accompaniment
