Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. A simple but powerful mission which serves as the foundation for what we do. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and generous donors we're able to serve children from all walks of life. Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the nation. We have operated in the Tampa Bay area for more than 50 years. We match volunteer adult mentors with children facing adversity in our community. In 2016 we provided nearly 3,000 children with a caring role model. The impact on the children is profound:

  • 98% of the children who had been matched for a year or more had no involvement with the Juvenile Justice system
  • 98% were promoted to the next grade level
  • 90% showed an increase in their self-confidence

Individuals, corporations, civic groups, churches and government agencies participate in our programs. These partnerships allow businesses to work closely with schools to see first-hand how mentoring works. Employers find that their employees are more productive and have a better attitude when given time off to volunteer. Some businesses even offer 'swap-time' to employees who volunteer one hour a week at a near-by school.

We can bring all the necessary traing to your workplace and your employees can decide what program or level of giving/mentoring they are able to provide. Contact Karen Kampel at (727) 480 8381 or KarenK@BBBSTampaBay.org.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, attend one of our all-inclusive sessions, you will complete our mentor training, submit your enrollment form and schedule your in-person interview. Join our organization and become a positive role model to a child facing adversity.
