To help the people of Englwood area, in a spirit of neighborliness, to meet transportation needs not otherwise met by other service agencies.
F.I.S.H.is a nonprofit specializing in free transportation for residents of Englewood and Rotonda West. Our volunteers provide transportation for anyone unable to drive to doctor's appointments, stores, banks and other locations in Englewood, and Venice. People who want to use the service must call the day before to make a reservation. There is no charge for rides but donations are appreciated. Fish is an organization of all volunteers. Some members answer the phone and make calls to pair up drivers with rider requests. Other serve as drivers once a week or more often if they choose to do so. With a broad base of members living in Englewood and Rotonda West, callers are able to pair up riders requests to drivers which minimize miles driven and make the best use of their time. Fish operates through a combination of donations and volunteers. Donations pay for the answering service, insurance associated with transit and gas reimbursement if requested. Fish is funded by area churches, local businesses, individuals, auxiliary and Rotary clubs. Without this combined support and the network of drivers and callers this volunteer organization could not exist.
