Visitor Service Assistants are the museum's main greeters, stationed at the visitor entrance in the museum shop. They are the first to welcome visitors, guests and shoppers. They also assist staff by answering the main phone line to the museum. Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum. Our volunteers provide an invaluable service to the Museum. They help present quality educational and cultural programming, exhibits, and special events to the Greater New Bedford community.

Administrative Assistants help RJD's staff to execute administrative tasks, conduct market research, and correspond with constituents. Assistants are assigned a work station with computer, phone and office supplies where they conduct various tasks in any given week. Examples of tasks include mailings, paperwork processing, document creation, proofreading, calls and correspondence, and market research. This position is suitable to those with some administrative background, strong organizational skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite.

Event Assistants help RJD staff in the execution of our educational programming and events for the public. The tasks for an event vary. They can include greeting, sales, simple food service, set-up and clean-up, and basic event coordination. Event attendance also ranges from more intimate programs of 20 people to larger parties of 200. People who enjoy more active, "front-facing" work, are problem-solvers, and comfortable with busy environments are well-suited to this position.

Garden Go-fers help RJD's Manager of Buildings and Grounds to maintain the city-block that the house gardens encompass. On these grounds are a formal boxwood rose parterre garden, a boxwood specimen garden, cutting garden and an award winning Woodland Walk. Maintenance includes clean-up, dead-heading, pruning and other basic maintenance under the close supervision of our knowledgeable staff. This is a more physically active position for those who enjoy the open air and quiet, solitary work.
