On Tuesday mornings, help us to pack much-needed food shelf items for homebound older adults in the community. Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors (LSHS) and Minnehaha Food Shelf (located in the Minnehaha United Methodist Church)joined forces back in August of 2020 with concern for elders in the community who were unable to pick up their food shelf items in-person due to the COVID pandemic. Although Covid restrictions have let up, there are still seniors who cannot leave home to get the food they need. Volunteers would meet at the food shelf and, along with LSHS staff, will pack individualized bags for clients, and help to load them into the delivery vehicles. All items go to older adults in the 55406-55404 community. We are looking for volunteers who could commit to 1 to 1 1/2 hours for at least one Tuesday a month. If you are able to lift up to 30 lbs, that is a bonus, but not a requirement.

Technology access can be essential to participating in today's world, but older adults sometimes struggle to connect with computers and cell phones. Help local older adults with basic technology questions such like: How to I send and receive emails? How do I save and share files? How can I share photos with my cell phone? How can I tell if an alert sent via email is fraudulent? Help in-person, or over the phone! We also hold periodic technology clinics where older adults can come and access volunteer help with for their computers, cell phones, and tablets.

Volunteers Needed to Drive Older Adults Many older adults in our community struggle to get to medical appointments and shop for groceries, especially during the winter months. We are looking for hearty and conscientious drivers who enjoy helping others get where they need to go. Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors is looking for volunteers who can use their vehicle to safely transport clients to medical appointments, grocery shopping, prescription pick-up, and more. Volunteers must be 21 or over, have a well-maintained car, auto insurance, and complete a background check. This is an opportunity to help an older neighbor continue to live independently, and while you are at it, make a new friend! Please contact Julia Ockuly, Volunteer & Service Coordinator at 612-729-5799 or visit lshealthyseniors.org to learn more.

Mission Statement
The mission of our community-based program is to help neighborhood seniors to maintain their independence and quality of life. This will be achieved through health promotional activities, community resources, volunteers and nursing services that help individuals live safely in their own homes.
Description
We are a non-profit community-based organization serving older adults in the Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods of Minneapolis. Our purppose is to help seniors live independently at home with a high quality of life.
We are a member of the Living At Home Network, a group of programs throughout Minnesota that relies on "neighbors helping neighbors" to help seniors maintain their independence at home. We have a small staff so volunteers are an integral part of how we meet the needs of seniors in the neighborhoods we serve.
