Mission Statement
Dedicated to saving the lives of our local horses from abuse, neglect, and slaughter by providing the best vet/farrier/feed to bring these horses back to health in a safe and positive environment. With the community in mind, we strive to gain an excellent standing with all we come in contact with. Finding "forever homes" for these horses is our priority.
Description
South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc. (SWFHR) is a Horse (Equine) Rescue operating in SW Florida more specifically Charlotte, Lee, Collier counties. We give our all for our community's equines and then some. Our operating area has, since our founding back in 2010, always been stated as the (5) counties of SW Florida but over the years we have rescued and re-homed beyond our counties.
We operate by simple rules which are safety, comfort, and security. These managing points lead to the main topics, of what we do, reduce and prevent undue stress of equines and owners. We consider our humane, ethical, and fiduciary duty to the equines we currently care for, to not need saving ourselves, while providing the following programs:
Equine Rescue, Equine Adoption, Volunteer, Equine Education, and Equine Owner Assistance (as funding is available)

We did a tour with Unise and she was amazing - so knowledgable and friendly! My daughter and I are animal lovers but new to horses and we learned a lot from Unise. The grounds are so well taken care of, as are the horses. You can tell all of the horses are well loved. The owners and volunteers are doing a fantastic job.

This is an organization who welcomes us volunteers as family. They are only concerned with helping the helpless animals in this world who have no one else. They have given up their lives to dedicate everything they have to help heal, restore and give a second chance to those who have been let down by others already. I have been there over 3 years and will never leave if they will have me! If you want to give some and get more back than you'll ever know, come give us a look!

SWFHR provides outstanding care to all of their horses. The training I have received is very detailed from feeding, handling, grooming, and horse well being care. I have been well supervised. Volunteers are happy and work hard. Tina and Matt have endless energy providing much love to all horses in their care and making sure volunteers are up to date daily on new findings in the horses health and well being. They also work tirelessly behind the scenes to raise money to support the rescue as well all of the day to day chores.
The horse barns and paddocks are cleaned daily and water troughs scrubbed and bleached. There is constant activity with keeping the rescue in tip top shape. Like trimming trees, improving drainage, keeping equipment in working order.
I would highly recommend volunteering at SWFHR.

A friend of mine told me about this volunteer opportunity years ago and I never signed up until May 2023. I am so glad that I did. T and M want what is best for the horses at the rescue and stay true to their mission. They put safety first. Their organization is instrumental striving to be the very best in the area. They provide many volunteer opportunities for hands-on work with equines, maintenance and administrative work. I've met a lot of people here and consider them to be close friends that I call "family." The horse rescue changed my life for the better. It rescued me.

SWFHR is the "real deal". You learn about the horses, their previous lives, how to care for them, and then work to give them the good life that they may never have had. It is a place of "good feelings" combined with some hard work. In the end, you can't help but leave with a smile on your face because you know you've made a difference. It is a also place of volunteers who become friends....we become "family"

If I were a horse this is where I would like to stay. The South West Florida Horse Rescue goes above and beyond when taking care of the horses they have. It is a special place not only because it is home to horses that have been abused and neglected but because of the vast array of other wildlife that finds sanctuary there. It is also a place where you can learn a lot about horses and the care they need.

This organization provides the best of care possible to each and every animal in it's care. No matter the cost or the effort required. To Phil J who wrote a most inappropriate and inaccurate review, I can only pray that you will soon receive the necessary psychological help that you so obviously need. South West Florida Horse Rescue is a wonderful place to volunteer. The care, dedication, and love provided to the horses by the volunteers and owners is what makes this a special place.

I have been volunteering with SWFL Horse Rescue for nearly 2 years and absolutely love it, They live up to their mission statement and provide amazing care and support for all the horses who come to them. Many are neglected and abused…. But all are loved at the Rescue. Matt and Tina are wonderful people to work with and the volunteers are the best. It’s a true pleasure each day to go out and be surrounded by the people and horses we have. We love having new volunteers, enjoy teaching what we know and meeting people. After Hurricane Ian the rescue was a vital part of reaching those who needed help with their animals and basic needs. The community support was amazing. It’s an honor to be apart of this rescue and I would highly recommend joining the Rescue Strong family

I LOVE this place! They totally adore the equines in their care and provide them the best life possible until they are either adopted or live out their days here. As a volunteer we interact with the horses and form bonds with them as well. The founders are very appreciative of their volunteers and are flexible with shifts, days and hours you spend based on your availability. I live about 40 minutes away but if I lived closer I would be there every day :). The horses are lucky to have found their way to this rescue to provide them the love and care they deserve!!! This is a nonprofit WELL deserving of your support, both monetarily and by volunteering your time or resources. I recommend a tour/visit to form your own opinion. You will be glad you did!!!!

NOT AT ALL ! I WAS THERE FOR ALL MOST 5 YEARS.THE LIES THAT ARE TOLD BY THE FOUNDER. i FOUND OUT THE FOUNDER STOLE TAX MONEY FROM LEE COUNTY. I WAS KICKED OUT OVER A LIE BY A KID . THEY NEVER ASKED WHAT HAPPEN. KICKED OUT AND THEY STOLE/ KEEP AND SOLD SOME OF MY TOOLS I HAD OUT THERE. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THEY ARE TRASH. Founder talks about incite VIOLENCE against the mental ill on her Facebook page. Is that something you want to be around? is that some thing you want to give money to? THATS MY Opinions

Great organization. Great atmosphere and great people. I tell everyone I know that would like to be involved with the ad of equestrians to contact South West Florida Horse Rescue Inc. and lend a hand. I have watched them grow over the past 4 years since I first met them and they would not have grown and achieve the goals and great accomplishments they have with without being the great people and organization they are. Donate your time or some spare change... even go out for a ride... you will love it and they will to.
