Mission Statement: Through creative, collaborative performance opportunities, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain the skills and confidence to engage with the world. Philosophy: ArtStream's mission is based on the belief that when people are engaged, stimulated, challenged and inspired, they surpass perceived limitations and undertake challenges they might never have considered. Vision: To use the arts as a means for social change by empowering individuals with disabilities to participate and flourish in inclusive communities, and to develop the leading models for self-advocacy and for creating original inclusive theatre.
ArtStream teaches art and social skills through participation in the performing arts. With over a decade of experience in the community, ArtStream builds confidence in participants by allowing them to make their own choices. ArtStream’s signature programs teach communication and pre-employment skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through Inclusive Theatre Companies and Inclusive Drama and Social Skills Classes. ArtStream’s Military Hospital Programs help patients, their families, and caregivers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), connect, collaborate, and heal through participation in the arts.
