Mission Statement

The Lavallette Volunteer First Aid Squad, Inc. preserves life, improves health and promotes safety by gathering the talents of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

Description

Since 1942, Lavallette Volunteer First Aid Squad (LVFAS) provides emergency medical services (EMS) to the residents and visitors of the Upper Shore Region of the Jersey Shore entirely with volunteers. It is one of the oldest EMS agencies and provides around-the-clock coverage at no cost to the ill or injured people it aids. LVFAS is the designated ambulance agency for Lavallette and provides service by mutual aid to Ortley Beach/Normandy Beach/Toms River, Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Brick Beach, Mantoloking, Bay Head and Berkeley. In 2017, the fleet consists of two, late-model ambulances, one four-wheel drive ambulance and a four-wheel drive SUV with an active corps of ten volunteers. In 2016, LVFAS handled approximately 300 emergency calls. Though LVFAS continues the tradition of "First Aid Squad" in its name, most members are certified Emergency Medical Technicians - some are also certified in other states and hold National EMT Registry certification. All training - CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course and EMT is provided free of charge! No experience is required with flexible scheduling and membership requirements. Are you a NJ licensed MD, DO, RN or PA? Gain NJ EMT with a short, 24-hour course. Partial list of benefits: Pension Plan (LOSAP), free continuing education opportunities, free NJ community college tuition; uniform, insignia and radio pager provided at no cost. Contact us today!

I have served as a "first aider" with Lavallette Volunteer First Aid Squad (LVFAS) for five years. My personal start in emergency services was in 1974 and I became a certified Emergency Medical Technician in 1981. I have seen a lot of EMS agencies and this outfit is great. LVFAS was recognized with the prestigious New Jersey Department of Health 2015 Outstanding Volunteer EMS Agency Award. In terms of vehicles, equipment, flexibility and local environment, this all-volunteer ambulance corps is the best! The first aid station is located right on Barnegat Bay (https://duckduckgo.com/l/?kh=-1&uddg=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FBarnegat_Bay) and the Atlantic Ocean is blocks away in this one-square mile shore town. The pace is very relaxed in the off-season and exciting during the summertime. I would encourage people of all ages, especially youth, to join. Every time we roll on an alarm, we help save a life! Join us today and make a real difference in many lives!
