Mission Statement

Since 1916, the American people have entrusted the National Park Service with the care of their national parks. The National Park Service preserves, unimpaired, the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Our history is part of who we were, who we are, and who we will be. The National Park Service invites you to discover American history in all its diversity at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

Description

The primary goal of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is to help the public understand the Spanish colonial role and impact in the Southwest. Through understanding, park visitors will appreciate the significance of the missions, and help to preserve them.

Volunteer-in-Parks (VIPs) are public-spirited people of all ages, walks of life, and educational backgrounds. Though they are individually different, they share a common interest - a love for the missions and national parks, and a desire to impart their enthusiasm and knowledge to others.

VIPs supplement the efforts of full-time employees. Tasks include everything from conducting wildlife and plant surveys to leading guided tours to performing clerical duties to maintaining park facilities.
