Interagency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect Associates (ICAN)

Description

Established in 1979, ICAN Associates is a private, non- profit organization which supports the work of the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN). It was established by a group of individuals in the private sector concerned about child abuse who recognized the critical need to develop an innovative partnership with leaders in the public sector. The Board of Directors consists of business, media and community leaders.

ICAN Associates supports ICAN through the provision of services including:

• sponsorship of educational forums
• community projects
• special events for vulnerable and abused children
• dissemination of materials
• direct and indirect services to prevent child abuse and neglect
• promoting integration and collaboration among child service agencies
• media campaigns

The formation of ICAN Associates represents one of the first public/private partnerships in the nation taking action against child abuse and neglect
