Mission Statement

Denver Center for International Studies prepares students for college by developing multilingual, interculturally competent citizens who are actively involved in our rapidly changing world.

Founded in 1985, Denver Center for International Studies is a world-class magnet program of Denver Public Schools.

Description

Above all else DCIS cherishes community. It starts right here at school, where DCIS is the ideal small learning community. DCIS has a dedicated staff and welcoming environment, and offers classes and activities that focus on the world around us: world geography, international politics, six world languages, global issues and more! DCIS gives each student the foundations of knowledge, skills and confidence to go to the next level.

DCIS students make a difference. A critical component of DCIS is the simple notion of taking an active role in the community - wherever that community is. DCIS students participate in service activities at the school, local, national, and international levels. Wherever they are and whatever they do, DCIS students are committed to improving their world.

Offering its diverse population of students a chance to prepare for college and the world beyond, DCIS combines academics, intercultural interaction, opportunities to travel and learn abroad, and the chance to become proficient in one of the world's major languages. 95% of DCIS graduates have gone on to some of the country's best colleges. DCIS has been home to seven, yes seven, Boettcher scholars, and has sent students to such great schools as Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Notre Dame, Harvard, University of Chicago and those closer to home, like the Universities of Denver and Colorado.

No school better prepares its students for the world outside its doors. With a firm foundation of challenging and relevant coursework, intercultural interaction and international opportunities, DCIS students really learn by doing, choosing, and directing many of their own internationally focused projects.
