Mission Statement

Opportunity to Read provides free basic literacy instruction, guidance and support to adults in the Watsonville area, enabling them to reach their goals and realize their personal potential in all areas of their lives. Tutoring is provided primarily through one-on-one sessions, however, the program also offers conversation groups, basic grammar groups and goal setting groups. The programs purpose is to help each individual learner achieve their personal goals.

Description

Opportunity to Read functions on a foundation of four agreements, as adapted from the book The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz, they are:

1. Be impeccable with your word - say what you mean and do what you say.

2. Do not take anything personally.

3. Do not make any assumptions.

4. Always do your best.

We are a learner centered adult literacy program functioning under the Watsonville Public Library and the California Library Literacy Services.
