Mission Statement
The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site will be the primary voice for interpreting the professional accomplishments of James F. D. Lanier, one of the most significant figures in the economic history of the state. The financial and social interactions between J.F. D. Lanier and his family with the different classes and residents in a thriving, Indiana, antebellum river town will also be explored at the site.
Description
The 1844 Greek Revival home of James F.D. Lanier, considered to be the "crown jewel" of Madison's Historic District. Now a National Historic Landmark, the site includes recreated formal gardens, a gift shop and a visitors center. Tours of the home are giving at regular intervals daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., the last tour begins at 4 p.m.
