Gateway to Hope is a breast cancer lifeline. Our mission is to secure comprehensive care and provide financial assistance for individuals in need diagnosed with or at high risk for developing breast cancer.
Dr. David Caplin, a reconstructive surgeon, and Dr. Marlys Schuh, a surgical oncologist, founded Gateway to Hope in 2005 after witnessing needless suffering and in some cases death of breast cancer patients who delayed treatment because they could not afford insurance.
Every patient who contacts Gateway to Hope is given personal attention immediately and throughout their treatment regimen. Our Insurance Premium Program (IPP) allows Gateway to Hope to broaden our patient reach by paying health insurance premiums or reimbursing patients throughout treatment. This allows them direct access to comprehensive care through the physicians and facilities of their choice.
Our Thelma’s Gift and Gail’s Legacy Funds help Gateway to Hope patients with financial stresses caused by the inability to earn income during breast cancer treatment. The funds are utilized to assist with rent or mortgage payments, gas cards to get to and from treatment, utilities, oral prescription medications and lymphedema garments.
To date, Gateway to Hope has connected nearly 1,000 local breast cancer patients in need to medical care and financial assistance.
