Mission Statement

Our Mission:
To educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is a life-changing learning program for girls in grades 3 - 8. The program combines training for a 3.1 mile running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training - all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.

Description

Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia (GOTR NoVA) seeks members for our Board of Directors (BOD) with a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls ages 8 through 13. GOTR International educates and prepares girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. GOTR's Northern Virginia council (http://www.girlsontherunofnova.org/) was established in 2001 and, operating with a budget of approximately $750K, is the country's largest. More than 2,000 girls are served each season with programs spread across Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties. GOTR NoVa is in a strong financial and organizational position to grow and mature at unprecedented levels.

The 11-member Board of Directors is charged with advising, governing, guiding and promoting GOTR-NoVA so as to support the organization's mission and needs. The Board meets on a quarterly basis, with committees meeting more frequently as needed. Board terms are 2 years in length and may be renewed if approved by the BOD.
