Mission Statement

Christians Overcoming Cancer (COC) is helping men, women and families with a cancer diagnosed child SUCCEED on their ROAD TO RECOVERY through Awareness, Emotional Support and Financial Relief.

Description

COCs area of focus is direct services to cancer patients through awareness, emotional support and financial relief.

Our programs are:

BE AWARE - EDUCATION is the key to AWARENESS and EARLY DETECTION. Our "Be Aware" project is designed to inform individuals of all races, religions and genders, the importance of performing monthly self exams, early detection, seeking treatment immediately and gaining awareness. We call this practicing "Self Health". Part of the project is our Four Corners Program designed to bring the cancer support services located in the suburbs into the inner city through partnerships with area churches. Through our project personal cancer stories are told of mindset growth prior, during and after treatment and medical professionals are invited so share their expertise with inner city cancer patients. Through the project cancer overcomers are able to encourage others of the importance of being proactive with their health from a position of "one who's been there".

WE CARE - SUPPORT is critical to the OVERALL EMOTIONAL HEALTH of a cancer patient. Our "We Care" program provides Central Ohio cancer patients a 24-hour network of people, from all walks of life, offering those newly diagnosed with cancer individual support ranging from a listening ear to companionship at treatments to home assistance to support for the persons and their family when having surgery. Through this program individuals having surgery have access to our Overcomer's Cuisinepost surgery dinner service where nutrious dinners are provided post survery for 3-7 days.

Our goal is to teach the 90/10% happenings of life rule which states life is 10% what happens to us and 90% our response to what happens and help the person and family implement the rule. Our benefit to our clients is personal access to support. Different from support groups where the person must wait until the weekly or monthly meeting, our support volunteers are a phone call away whenever needed. DOLLARS ALLOCATED TO ASSIST (DATA) - FINANCIAL RELIEF is vital to the OVERALL STABILITY of a cancer patient. Our "Dollars Allocated to Assist (DATA)" program, we believe, is the missing link to increasing the number of people who seek treatment early and/or at all and who succeed on their road to recovery. We believe a person would be more willing to seek treatment if they knew there was an organization in place that would help them meet "personal" financial obligations as needed while in treatment. The program is a two-fold in its service to cancer patients. First, the program serves as an information resource. We have developed and are maintaining a database of services available specifically to cancer patients. Second, the program serves as a financial resource maintaining two funds specifically to financially assist those in active cancer treatment experiencing financial difficulty.

Fund monies are made possible through the tax-deductible donations and contributions of individuals and businesses as well as from our fundraising activities. Our ability to offer financial assistance is reflective of monies received.
