Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The South Boston Neighborhood House continues to reflect the spirit of the Settlement House Movement, carrying out its mission "to support family and neighborhood life in South Boston" through seven major programs operating at four sites. that focus on developing the individual and collective strengths of the South Boston community. All Neighborhood House programs: Senior Center, Adolescent Services, Early Education and Care, a Boston Community Learning Center for school age youth, Early Books--our family reading program, and Community Outreach, are focused on education. Beginning with the infants and toddlers in our Early Books activities, up to the seniors in our "Jet Setters" group, our mandate is to promote the healthy development of families and the community in which they live.
Our Senior Center offers our senior citizens an opportunity to maintain their independence and self-respect and be socially active members of the community.
Adolescent Programs mentor a new generation of South Boston youth as they develop the strength and skills to create full, self-sufficient and drug-free lives.
Our Early Education and Care programs provide support to families through child care, part-time play groups, out-of-school-time activities, and parent support.
Our Community Learning Center partners with the Oliver Perry School to provide out of school time programming for children that fosters academic excellence through the Boston Learning Standards.
Early Books, our family reading program, works to improve the educational preparedness of children and increase family learning by encouraging parents to become their child's first teacher.
Community Outreach activities include welcoming newcomers and volunteers.
