KEY ACTIVITIES: Facilitate groups of caregivers or people living with dementia to provide social and educational support helping group members provide emotional support to one another. Present pertinent Association materials and information to group members and assure a positive experience for attendees. Connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual in Spanish and English. Ability to be empathic and separate personal needs from group needs. Strong listening and effective communication skills. Ability to redirect and facilitate discussions, as well as fulfill the duties and responsibilities as described in the Facilitator Agreement. Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect. Commitment to promote the mission and services of the Association and willingness to act as an extension of the Association. Experience with dementia as a family member or healthcare professional preferred. COMMITMENT EXPECTED: Support Group Facilitators commit to a 1-year term delivering a monthly or bi-weekly group. All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures. Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner. Early-Stage Support Group Facilitator Support Group Facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. Key Activities: Co-facilitate groups of people living with dementia to help group members provide emotional support to one another. Present pertinent Association materials and information to group members and assure a positive experience for attendees. Connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. Ensure a smooth transition to other services/support at the termination of each 8-week cycle. Qualifications: Strong listening and effective communication skills with demonstrated ability to be empathic and separate personal needs from group needs. Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion as well as fulfill the Facilitator duties and responsibilities as described in onboarding. Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect. Passionate about the Alzheimer’s Association mission with personal or professional experience with dementia preferred. Must be age 21 to apply. Background checks are required. Commitment Expected: Support Group Facilitators commit to a 1-year term during which they will deliver two closed group limited-term support group cycles of 8-weekly sessions each (16 sessions total). All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures. All Volunteer Early-Stage Support Group Facilitators will be paired with either another Volunteer Early-Stage Facilitator or a staff partner for co-facilitation of each cycle Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner. This team provides an opportunity to contribute to the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association. The purpose of the Committee is to support the Walk to End Alzheimer’s by planning, executing, promoting, and recruiting in the community. Work strategically in conjunction with the Chapter Staff to ensure that plans for the event are successfully executed. Help to identify and organize volunteers and current Team captains Recruit and engage teams to encourage fundraising Identify opportunities to engage local businesses and possible sponsorships Promote and help build awareness of the event throughout community Organize and coordinate Day-of event logistical needs. Provide feedback to staff regarding current volunteerism activities Participate in regular Committee meetings held throughout the year.

Alzheimer's Association Mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Our Vision: A world without Alzheimer's disease. We are looking for passionate committee members for The Longest Day (TLD), our annual "do-it-yourself" fundraising program! Shine a light with us to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's and all other dementia. The volunteer's role for The Longest Day includes all or some of the following: attending monthly committee meetings, making phone calls to participants, writing thank you cards, reaching out to your network and making connections, assisting with marketing of events, participating on the TLD social media pages, fundraising etc. Your Alzheimer's Association staff partner supports you throughout the program and is very flexible and happy to tailor your volunteer experience around your interests and schedule. Most meetings are held in person in our midtown Manhattan offices. Ideal volunteers would have some of these traits: Enjoy connecting with people, passionate about ending Alzheimer's, enthusiastic, creative, comfortable talking on the phone and a willingness to participate in or co-host events. Monthly commitment: Approximately 4-5 hours per month.
