Join the Transportation (TRANS) team! The TRANS team advocates for a fully connected, electrified regional transit system and pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure that are safe, convenient, and affordable, and support GHG emission reduction goals. The TRANS team campaigns to urge the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) to increase transit and active transportation options, with a focus on communities of concern. What We’re Working On: (Current Project) Education & Distribution of our Microtransit white paper (Current Project) Ongoing research on renewable energy, autonomous vehicles, etc. Advocating for the promotion of equity and reductions of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of projects in the Regional Plan released by SANDAG to learn about the plan and opportunities for providing public input Educating the public and building coalitions in preparation for future transit ballot initiative. What You’ll Do: Attend SANDAG and MTS meetings and provide written or oral comments. Represent SanDiego350 at various coalition meetings. Meet with elected officials to advocate for policies. Educate SD350 members about policies and engage in transportation justice advocacy. Analyze, describe, and track relevant local, regional, and state policies. Advocate for a safe and connected active transportation (bicycling and pedestrian) network throughout the County. Regular Meetings: The Transportation Committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. No experience necessary, just a passion to learn! Join SanDiego350's Member Engagement Team (MET). As part of SanDiego350, the team works on welcoming and integrating new volunteers into the organization. We also plan fun social outings around San Diego County to create space for folks to meet others who are passionate about climate justice. What You’ll Do: Participate in tabling opportunities to engage new potential volunteers Plan out social events to increase opportunities for folks to bond like hikes, beach cookouts, trip to Balboa Park, etc Prepare for and host Orientation Chats (online and in person) for new volunteers Regular Meetings: The MET team meets on the first Monday of every month with the next meeting being Jan. 9th @7pm - 8:15pm The Climate Action Plan Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Join the Climate Action Plan (CAP) Committee! The CAP team advocates for municipalities throughout the San Diego region to adopt ambitious, measurable, and enforceable strategies within their Climate Action Plans. Climate Action Plans are the key planning documents that municipalities use to guide their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their key sectors including energy, transportation, solid waste, land use, and urban design. What You’ll Do: Research climate policies that cities can implement in their CAPs Participate in workshops and public hearings on CAP updates and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Meet with elected officials and policymakers to educate and inform them about the need and benefits of good climate policies. Host webinars and forums to educate and activate our fellow residents in the region Regular Meetings: The Climate Action Plan Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Are you a high school student tired of not having equitable access to community service opportunities? Are you interested in restoring the climate of our community and are you eager to learn and empower others? If yes, you’re in the right place! Youth Making Green is a youth volunteering group that actively acknowledges increasing environmental issues within City Heights, although the members of the campaign are NOT limited to City Heights, most of our volunteering work will initially take place within that general area. This campaign aims to create youth volunteering opportunities around City Heights pertaining to promoting environmental and climate literacy, as City Heights is directly affected by redlining and increasing climate burdens. This includes but is not limited to community beautification, school/library presentations and workshops about sustainability and related subjects, media advocacy, and more. As a YMG volunteer, you have the opportunity to make a personal impact using your own personalized skills. Join us as a team lead, media manager, project head, or general participant!
