Mission Statement

The Green Science Policy Institute (GSP) provides unbiased scientific data to government, industry and non-governmental organizations to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in consumer products. GSP advocates for science-based chemical policy and works globally to protect health and environment.

Description

Most people assume that the chemicals in commerce have been tested for possible adverse effects on humans, animals, and the environment. This is not true. Under the current regulatory system, chemicals need not be tested and their risks are not known. Wild animals, our bodies, and our children's bodies contain increasing levels of toxic and untested chemicals. These chemicals have been shown to cause, reproductive, developmental and neurological disorders including birth defects, learning disorders, mental retardation, hyperactivity and ADHD in animal studies. GSP works on the state, federal and international levels to the limit of use of potentially toxic fire retardants and similar chemicals, while promoting green chemistry and a safer policy approach to chemical use.
