Communtiy Action of Laramie County is dedicated to eliminating poverty by empowering people through education, advocacy, crisis intervention and providing opportunities toward self-sufficiency.

Description

Head Start: Pre-natal to 5 Years is a comprehensive child development program for families with children birth to age five. The mission is to ensure that children enter shcool with the necessary skill to succeed, and to empower families to recognize and build their strengths, by providing a learning environment that will allow all family members to reach their optimal potential.

Self-Sufficiency and Housing program is designed to help people become self-sufficient and assist with housing opprotunities. This program offers various support services to help low-income families and individuals recover from economic set-backs. Assistance includes help with utilities, deposits, rent and mortgage payments. Several housing units provided for homeless individuals including a Homeless Veterans House which is due to be complete in 2009.

Cheyenne Crossroads Clinic provides medical care and other health services to the homeless population of Laramie County. Clients include people living temporarily in motels, sleeping on the streets, residing in short-term residential facilities or doubling up with friends/family. The clinic provides primary health care, prescription assistance, health education, mental health, substance abuse counseling, and transportation assistance with health care appointments.

Wyoming Kinship Advocacy facilitates relative caregiver support through an experienced staff who are grandparents raising grandchildren by offering confidential information and referrals. Assistance includes legal and financial assistance, educational support, mental health concerns and child care needs.

Cheyenne Farmers' Market is an annual fundraiser for CALC. Starting the first Saturday in August and running through the first Saturday in October, the Market excels in bringing the community together. The market features fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan breads, honey, specialty foods, native tree, fragrant flowers, organic produce and much more.

AmeriCorps VISTA is a sponsored program in which individuals dedicate a year to be A Volunteer In Service To America. VISTAs work on capacity building, literacy programs and creating self-sustaining programs.
