TheTexas Health and Human Services Commission offers a learning opportunity in the Medicaid for the Elderly and People with Disabilities Program, (MEPD).MEPDProvides care for older adults and persons with disabilities, including help paying Medicare premiums, in home care such as personal attendant services, meals, and day to day activity. This placement offers valuable office experience and an insight into social services and the relationships between federal, state, community and individual needs.

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of clerical duties, such as: compile lists and then type up on the computer, file, shred documents, copy and fax documents. In addition, occasionally the volunteer will be asked to shelve and arrange forms and supplies, handle and process mail, answer the telephone and/or assist applicants complete forms for assistance.

Description

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission offers a learning opportunity in the Eligibility Services Program. This program helps to provide low-income families with basic food, financial and medical assistance through the following programs: Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, (TANF), and Medicaid. Tasks available to volunteers are varied and placement is based upon the volunteer's interest, capability and the availability of openings. This placement offers valuable office experience and an insight into social services and the relationships between federal, state, community and individual needs.
