Dog Walkers Welcome
Mentor Dog Walker Paul walking a doggie resident who has been here for the past two years.

Purpose:

Engage, play, and walk dogs with positive reinforcement techniques to help relieve the stress and depression that occur within the shelter environment.

Duties:

1 - Spend at least 20 minutes per dog walking, playing or just sitting quietly with the dog in its kennel. Utilize the mountainside for hiking or enclosed exercise pens to teach obedience.

2 - Record your time spent walking dogs each day you are at the shelter.

3 - Record which dog(s) you worked with for that day. Check back on the record sheet to see which dogs need walking.

4 - Record anything wrong with the dog, such as coughing, bloody stools, cuts, etc.

Qualification:

1 - Must be 18 years of age or older or accompanied by someone over 18.

2 - Attend volunteer orientation and complete required documents.

3 - Complete five hours of volunteer time in the dog prep/kennel areas.

4 - Attend dog training class.

Commitment:

At least two hours per week with a six month commitment.
