Are you looking for a truly meaningful volunteer opportunity? Surrey at Broomall delivers meals to homebound older adults in the Haverford Township, Broomall, Drexel Hill and Newtown Square areas. Your brief visit delivering a meal can have a huge impact on a homebound older adult. Sometimes, your brief visit is the only in-person conversation that older adult may have that day.

This is an Ongoing Opportunity and Drivers are needed everyday, Monday through Friday. Pick the day that works for you. Please consider becoming a Substitute Driver if you cannot make a weekly commitment.

Volunteers drive their own vehicles and are provided a cooler and hot bag to use to keep the food at the correct temperature. Pick up meals at the Broomall Center around 10:45 a.m. A route takes less than two hours to deliver meals to five to eight people. Maps and directions to each meal recipient are provided.


Necessary Skills:

  • Good communication and personal skills
  • Ability to follow simple directions
  • Readiness for a valuable and rewarding volunteer experience!

For nearly 45 years, Surrey has connected people and resources, creating a vibrant community of older adults. We offer programs and services that help older adults remain safe and engaged in our community including:

  • Activities, exercise, clubs, lunch, and lectures at any Surrey center - Bryn Mawr, Broomall, Devon, or Media
  • Nutritious meals available in-person or Grab and Go Monday-Friday at Devon, Broomall, and Media
  • Transportation services, fee-based and free, provided by volunteers, Surrey Drivers and through partnerships with Chester County Community Transit (Chester County) and DELGO Community Transit (Delaware County)
  • Home care services including RN Care Management for help with medication management and care; personal care for help bathing and dressing; and Personal Finance Management for help with bills, insurance claims, and long-term care policies.
  • Opportunities to downsize and consign with the Surrey Consignment Shop.
  • Free instruction, support, and hands-on training for family caregivers and aspiring caregivers at The Surrey Academy.
