Plumton Park Zoological Gardens is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love to take care of animals! Volunteers are needed to muck pens, help prepare diets, and work on special projects. Volunteers will assist zookeepers or interns in providing daily care and management to zoo animals, animal enrichment, diet preparation, and special tasks.
Volunteers begin as general volunteers - who do animal 'adjacent' activities - until they have volunteered at least 20 hours with the zoo and zookeepers are confident in their abilities. Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors and preferably should be able to lift 50 pounds. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least eight hours a month. This can be done in one day or over several days. Weekday volunteers are especially needed!
Volunteer scheduling is very flexible; volunteers can come in any time between 10am-5pm Su-Sat. New volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation workshop, held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 4:00PM at the admissions building. If you cannot attend the mandatory Saturday orientation workshop, please contact the volunteer coordinator at the email below. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent present during the workshop to sign a liabity waiver; unfortunately, we do not have any volunteer opportunities avaiable for children under 16 years of age at this time.
