ORGANIZATION: The SEED School of Maryland

BACKGROUND: The SEED School of Maryland is a public college-preparatory boarding school located on a beautiful 52-acre gated campus in southwest Baltimore. Our mission is to provide an exemplary education and living experience which equips each student with the academic, critical thinking, and social skills necessary for success in college and beyond. The SEED School of Maryland is a place of hope and possibilities that makes a difference in the lives of at-risk students and their families. Title: SEED Math Tutor

Purpose:The tutor would help SEED middle school students to raise their math scores.

Description of Duties:

  • Provide assistance with math assignments

  • Help make the work relatable

  • Check in with students to assess their understanding of the information

Qualifications:

  • Patience when working with children

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Enthusiasm

  • Ability to manage stressful situations

  • Enjoy math

  • Education background in math preferred

  • A background check

Time Requirements: Tutoring will available Monday- Thursday @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm and 6:35 pm -7:35 pm. Tutors are required to commit two hours a week for two months minimum.

Orientation/Training: All tutors are required to take a two hour orientation and training session provided twice monthly. Orientation follows the interview, invitation, and background check.

Evaluation Procedures: An entrance and exit survey will be given to all tutors to assess the volunteer program.

Reporting Procedures: It will be the responsibility of the tutor to sign in and out accurately. Upon request, tutors will be given an update of their hours.
