ArtWorks for Milwaukee is a small, but growing nonprofit whose mission is preparing youth for tomorrow by providing transferable job skills through arts internships today.

We are looking for a volunteer to work with us an average of 5-10 hours per week to help us with our bookkeeping/administrative needs.

Bookkeeping/Payroll tasks:

  • Handles data entry and management of Quickbooks Online system, including accounts receivable and payable, payroll journal entries, monthly bank and credit card reconciliation, etc.
  • Electronically files invoices with processed checks and credit card transactions to maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Provide financial reports as requested by Executive Director, finance committee, and outside accountant
  • Tracks expenses for funder reporting and prepares cost reports as needed
  • Sets new employees up in payroll system
  • Resolves issues with payroll system, i.e. uncleared checks
  • Assist with annual insurance audit
  • Assist with yearly budget process, as needed
  • Prepare annual 1099’s
  • Assists with annual audit
  • Monitors systems and processes to identify areas for increased efficiency/consistency
  • Other tasks and projects as available to ensure the smooth running of the financial side of the house.

Administrative:

  • Support onboarding new employees and volunteers by ensuring completion of required paperwork
  • Other tasks and projects as available to ensure the smooth running of the financial side of the house.

Experience & Skills:

  • Related associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience (minimum 1-2 years)
  • Experience handling confidential information with accuracy, integrity, and discretion
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organization skills and very detail oriented
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn ArtWorks’ software programs: Quickbooks’ Online, Paychex, Google Sheets, Asana, and Network for Good.

Description

2021 marks ArtWorks' 20th anniversary of providing teens with paid, skill-building internships in the arts. Over 1,400 high school students have completed Artworks ’ internships during this time. Each year, ArtWorks ’ interns work on murals, videos, and other projects which strengthen their confidence and work ethic, and provide outlets for positive creative expression. These projects also contribute to the quality of life in our community with the addition of public art and positive perceptions of the city ’ s youth. ArtWorks is often a student ’ s first job experience and gives them a safe and nurturing space to learn, test, and develop skills that are critical to today ’ s workforce: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, innovation, problem solving, and creativity.
