Would you like to make a difference in the lives of homeless youth in Washington, DC? Families and youth in DC have experienced increasing rates of homelessness over the past several years because of the recession, and need our help more than ever.

StandUp for Kids DC is an organization that conducts street outreach and other volunteer activities to help homeless and at-risk youth in the DC area, with the mission of ending the cycle of youth homelessness. Our organization is entirely fueled by volunteers like you, so we ask that our volunteers all learn about the programs we do and why they do them before getting involved.

We are currently offering counselor training on Tuesday, June 18th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Shaw Library. As a prerequisite to the counselor training, you must take the online orientation. Please visit our online orientation (http://www.standupforkids.org/WashingtonDC/training-schedule), to go through this 45-minute presentation about our group. At the end, you will be prompted to give us some more information about yourself and sign up for some opportunities.

*** LOCATION: Shaw Library, 1630 7th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001 -- conference room #2. DC's Shaw Library ( http://dclibrary.org/watha) is located directly across from the R Street exit of the Shaw/Howard Metro stop on the Green and Yellow lines, and just two stops north of Gallery Place. Mission Statement

The mission of StandUp for Kids is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this one life at a time. Every day, homeless youth face obstacles that most of us cannot comprehend. Where will I have my next meal? When can I shower? Where will I sleep tonight? We assist homeless youth in tackling some of their everyday obstacles and work towards a life of safety, good health, and connections off the streets.

Description
