Street Team members nation-wide are responsible for getting out the word of 1-800-RUNAWAY to those who may be at-risk. Street Team members are the front-line outreach arm of the National Runaway Safeline. We know there are many teens and families in crisis who don't know about NRS' services. Street Team members help get the word out about 1-800-RUNAWAY by handing out NRS' many free promotional materials in the community. Materials include NRS' runaway prevention curriculum and video, brochures, bookmarks, wallet cards and posters. Street Team members can hand out or leave materials in schools, churches, libraries, stores, restaurants, mall, etc. - anywhere where youth or parents will see them. There is no time requirement and the outreach activities can be completed whenever and wherever is convenient to the Street Team member. Plus, Street Team members can earn cool rewards for the outreach efforts! Members can be a Street Team of one, or a Street Team of as many friends, family members, co-workers or classmates that would like to join.

As a Street Team member, individuals nationwide have the opportunity to impact their community directly. The Street Team is a grass roots community outreach program which aims to increase awareness of issues runaway and homeless youth face as well as increase awareness of the programs and services NRS offers. Once approved as a Street Team member, a starter kit is sent with materials to be distributed in the community. After distribution of the starter kit materials, Street Team members are able to request more and continue in their work on an on-going basis.

The Street Team allows caring individuals to be creative in their contribution to society. Activities can range from creating a YouTube video to promote awareness, getting 1-800-RUNAWAY on the back of school IDs, presenting Let's Talk: Runaway Prevention Curriculum or simply wearing a 1-800-RUNAWAY t-shirt. A Street Team member might not even know the impact they have, might not know just who sees 1-800-RUNAWAY, makes a call and is able to receive services.

Here are the steps toward becoming a National Runaway Safeline Street Team member:

1. Fill out the Street Team application that can be found at http://www.streetteammember.org/streetteam/.

2. NRS will review the application and if accepted, will send a starter kit of NRS materials and program information. Program information that will be sent will include a login and password to access our web-based system where activities can be tracked, points earned and rewards redeemed.

Once the starter kit and log on information is received, Street Team members can access the web-based system to view a list and description of activities to do as a Street Team member. Examples of these activities include:

Add NRS' banner to your website. NRS banners can be downloaded from our website, www.1800RUNAWAY.org.

  • Get 1-800-RUNAWAY or NRS information on student IDs or resource cards in school districts near you.
  • Refer someone new to the NRS Street Team.
  • Put NRS in a YouTube video.

The suggested list of activities is not exhaustive! Street Team members are encouraged to be creative and passionate about outreaching to those who many need to call 1-800-RUNAWAY!
