About

Requesting volunteers to help at the 18th Annual Metro Children's Water Festival (CWF) September 28th, 2016 at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds!

Come join over 1,300 4th graders as they come to engage in interactive education about our water resources. Visit the CWF website for more information and to take a photo tour of the past Festivals. The CWF website can be found at www.metrocwf.org.

This awesome program is made possible by many generous contributors, including volunteers just like you! In fact, it takes over 125 talented and enthusiastic individuals make this possible! Below is a list of volunteer opportunities. You can also consult the attached PDF Spreadsheets for details on individual positions. Volunteer positions are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in volunteering send your name, email address, phone number, affiliation, and volunteer interest to Andy Edgcumbe at aedgcumbe@co.carver.mn.us. All volunteers are provided FREE breakfast and lunch!

CLASSROOM GUIDES: 44 Class Guides are needed. Class Guides are assigned to one class and accompany that class the entire day through their assigned learning stations, lunch, and class pictures. They are there to help engage the students in the activities. However, they are not there to chaperone. Teachers and parent chaperones are responsible for this. Positions are filled on a first come, first served basis.

WATER ARCADE TEAM MEMBERS: At least 12 volunteers are needed to assist in the Water Arcade where students have an opportunity to have some free time to explore approximately 8 different, interactive learning stations. Those include activities such as fish painting, creating water message magnets, exploring groundwater through the Groundwater Model, or being encapsulated in Bubbleology! While the Water Arcade can get loud - student's excitement puts a smile on volunteer's faces! We'd like to have at least 8 or more volunteers for the Water Arcade. Water Arcade volunteers are one of the few positions where you can volunteer for a portion of the day rather than the entire day if you need to get other work items done. Of course we welcome your participation the entire day. In addition, this year volunteers will be able to rotate stations throughout their time at the arcade so they can experience more than one activity.

BUS DIRECTION / PARKING: It requires many buses to get 1300 students to the Fair Grounds. From about 8:45 am until 10:45 am we need a set of volunteers to help direct buses into the Fair Grounds, get them to the unloading area, and direct them to where they can park. If you prefer not to be surrounded by hundreds of 5th graders at one time - perhaps this is a volunteer role for you as you can just "wave" and "point". We need about 3-4 volunteers here.

PHOTOGRAPHERS: Every class has their picture taken either upon arrival or at lunch time. We need experienced group photographers to assist in this endeavor. If you have experience in taking group pictures - please let us know. We require about 4 photographers and assistants.

WATER DROPS: Do you have an outgoing spirit? Would rather not be seen or heard at the CWF? You have a enthusiastic soul and a theatrical spirit? Then volunteer to be one of our two Water Drops! The Water Drops are our mascots - consisting of a costume that looks like a giant water drop. We could use at least 4 volunteers for these roles. Two Water Drops are needed along with two assistants to accompany the Water Drops at all times.

PRESENTATION HELPERS: A number of our 30 presenters require assistants at their learning stations. If you have an interest in assisting - and learning from a veteran presenter - then perhaps one of these volunteer positions might be for you!

FLOATERS: We also require a few "floaters" - to serve in last minute roles and to run errands for the CWF Coordinators. You may be asked to substitute for someone, help with registration, lunch, pictures, etc.

If you are only available a portion of the day, this might be a role for you!

MISCELLANEOUS: We have several other miscellaneous roles to fill - registration assistance, lunch help, relief help for a presenter, water supplier for our talented presenters, etc.

If you have questions regarding the volunteer positions or other items, please feel free to contact me. Please forward this email on to others that may be interested in volunteering. Again, if you are interested in volunteering send Jen your name, email address, phone number, affiliation, and volunteer interest to Charlie Sawdey rsawdey @co.carver.mn.us

Thanks for your participation!
