New hospice volunteers participate in a 12-15 hour training program. Training provides volunteers with information regarding the hospice philosophy of care, volunteer roles, communication skills, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of death and the interdisciplinary team approach to hospice care. Classes focus on learning effective ways to relate to patients and their family.
Because the families we serve are in a difficult time in their lives our selection of volunteers is a careful and thoughtful process. Willowbrook Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, in good health, have available transportation and have not experienced the death of a significant person within the past 12 months. Volunteers must complete the application process and training program to qualify. We are located @:
Hendersonville Office - 125B Haven Street, Hendersonville, 37075

Description
Hospice provides special care, assisting both patient and family members to cope with incurable disease during the final journey of life.
This care is provided as an alternative to hospitalization or continued treatment. The hospice program enables families to remain together during this time of crisis with an emphasis on effective symptom management and pain control. Hospice allows the patient to experience a dignified death in their home. An interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers make routine visits to the home, Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Home.
