Mission Statement

Sisters Network of Central New Jersey (SNCNJ)is committed to increasing local attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the African American community.

Description

SNCNJ is an affiliate chapter of Sisters Network Inc., a National African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization. SNCNJ formed in January 2000, was created in responses to the lack of African American cancer support organizations in the Central New Jersey area.

Believing that early detection is still the best protection, the organization works diligently to ensure the success of five major annual breast cancer education and awareness projects. In additional to hosting a seniors projects, a project for high school teens and speaking in the community at health events, churches, sororities, senior citizens complexes and corporations.

The organization has become a powerful voice and continues to be highly visible and respected in the African American community. Due to the continuing high breast caner mortality rate among AAW, SNCNJ continues to design their projects to educate, provide support and bring awareness to underserved, underinsured/uninsured women. Because of the growing economic crisis and lack of health care, an indigent component (B-CAP) offers free assistance to qualified womne. The organization's goal is to annually personally reach 3,000 women, refer 250 plus for ammogram screenings, provide treatment assistance for 55 and reach 20,000 or more families using education and awareness materials, including television and radio.
