Adult Male Buddy in Chester County, PA

Save to Favorites

Compeer friends at Marsh Creek State Park

Make a new buddy and have fun! Perhaps mentor a younger guy. Adult male volunteers, including those 55-plus, are needed to provide supportive friendship to another man who's dealing with mental health challenges. All it takes is 4 hours per month.

Volunteers are matched one-to-one with an adult of the same gender who has been referred to our program by a professional. Spending time with a supportive buddy has been shown to boost self-esteem, reduce loneliness, and help a person along their road to recovery.

Volunteers receive training and can choose their friend. Pairs are matched up based on mutual interests, location, and other factors. Staff facilitate an introductory meeting and provide ongoing support. Occasional social events give you a chance to get together with other matched Compeer friends.

You and your friend decide the times you meet or talk. Activities can vary, based on what you two choose. Some possibilities are having coffee or lunch together, going bowling, or taking a hike. Or you can just talk.

About COMPEER Chester County

PO Box 5213, West Chester, PA 19380, US

Mission Statement

To connect adults who have mental health conditions with caring, trained volunteers, thereby maximizing community participation and helping people enjoy a friendship.

We match community volunteers in one-to-one friendships with adults in mental health recovery who can use some extra support. Compeer Chester County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is a program of Mental Health Partnerships (mentalhealthpartnerships.org). We are also part of Compeer International (compeer.org).

Sharing activities and conversation with a supportive friend has been shown to help a person with a mental health diagnosis feel more positive and hopeful -- and less isolated. Friendships build confidence and boost self-esteem, both vital for someone on their road toward recovery.

Compeer is supported by the Chester County Department of Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (MH/IDD) and private donations.

Compeer Chester County's vision is that way people view persons with mental illness will be changed; persons in mental health recovery will feel more included in their communities, and their lives will be transformed by connecting them with one real friend.
