We are looking for volunteers to assist with art classes for disabled adults and youth on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am a City College instructor assigned to teach at the Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center two days a week in the areas of painting, drawing, ceramics, scultpure and mixed mediums. I adapt the classes to suit the needs and interests of the students, ability and skill level. Volunteers are needed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to the entire semester, but adjustments can be made to your schedule. I teach a morning and afternoon session, either between 9:00am-12:00pm or 12:30-3:30pm, and volunteers are welcome to come to either session and volunteer 1-3 hours. I am looking for volunteers with some art background who are interested in assisting individual students or leading an art project of their own with an individual or small group. Classes have between 10-25 students with a wide range of interests and needs. Most semesters we culminate with a large scale art show and need help with framing and mounting artwork and setting up for the art show. Volunteer duties include: set up and clean up, modeling art techniques, special projects like the finale art show and sale.
