ORGANIZATION: Bivona Child Advocacy Center

Family Reception & Waiting Area Volunteers and Interns will welcome children and families to the facility; assist families in the reception area with questions and paperwork; play with children in the waiting area; assist team members from law enforcement, child protective services and victim advocates as needed; answer and triage phone calls, some computer work and other tasks as required.

Position Description: (specific duties/responsibilities):

  • Meet and greet clients, families, professional agency staff, volunteers and visitors to the building
  • Assist with waiting room oversight, including maintaining a safe environment for children
  • Answer all incoming telephone calls; answer general agency questions; triage calls to appropriate personnel
  • Input client appointments
  • Special projects as assigned by agency staff
  • Provide word processing, filing, and general office support to staff and team as necessary
  • Participate in 3 month and annual evaluations

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Excellent customer service along with verbal communication skills and job dependability
  • Strong work ethic and a true commitment to the position
  • Understanding of and compassion for children
  • Ability to work independently, as well as the ability to ask for help when needed
  • Experience working with children and families helpful
  • Must possess professional demeanor and appearance
  • Typing, computer skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to deal with stress and be able to work calmly under pressure

Bivona Volunteer Training Required:

  • Bivona Orientation & Binder
  • Darkness to Light (D2L) Stewards of Children Training (2 hours)
  • Family Reception & Waiting Area Training and Overview (2 hours)
  • Family Reception & Waiting Area On-the-Job Training (3+ hours)

Special Requirements:

  • Confidentiality statement must be signed
  • Criminal background check

Schedule/Hours Required: 4-hour shifts for this position are flexible based upon the volunteer/intern’s availability during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A commitment of 3-5 shifts per month are required.

Length of Assignment: Commitment minimum of 6 months.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center is a safe, welcoming place where children who have been sexually or physicallly abused can begn their journey of healing.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center staff facilitates an under-one-roof collaboration of social and legal agencies to protect, treat, and counsel child abuse victims and their families, and to investigate and prosecute the abusers. Bivona Child Advocacy Center is the only agency in Greater Rochester to provide such comprehensive services. Since opening our doors in 2004, we have evaluated nearly 20,000 children.
