Imagine that you could not read a bus schedule or interpret the directions on a medicine bottle. Please consider becoming a volunteer tutor for the adult literacy program, Partners in Reading, at the San Jose Public Library.
The experience is rewarding and exciting. You will be tutoring an English-speaking adult who is 18 years or older. One-on-one tutoring will take place within branches of the San Jose Public Library and other public sites in San Jose. Small group tutoring is also encouraged. The next Tutor Orientation will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Tutor Training will take place on Saturday, May 12, and Saturday, May 19, from 9 to 4. All sessions will be at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Public Library. All sessions are required and participants must register in advance. All volunteers must complete fingerprinting. Please call (408) 808-2361 for location information or if you have any questions.
Time commitment is 3 hours per week for 6 months or more. To see some tutors and learners in action, visit www.sjpl.org/partutorresources. Each video is followed by a survey. Please fill it out so we can use your feedback. This online training was made possible in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
