The Green Center is a center for outdoor environmental education and the arts, located in University City, Missouri. The Center's outdoor classroom environments include Kaufman Woods and the 26-acre Ruth Park Woods. Through the years, the woods have become overrun by non-native bush and Japanese vine honeysuckle and euonymus. The Green Center is working to remove these invasives from the woods, allowing the woodlands to return to a healthy state. If not removed, the honeysuckle will crowd out all other growth in the forest understory. By removing these invasive, non-natives, we are increasing plant diversity and improving the environment in the woodland settings for small mammals and birds. Invasive plant removal happens throughout the year, but mainly in the spring, summer and early fall. If you are interested in this project, we can add you name to our volunteer list so you can be notified when a removal event is planned.
