Mission Statement

Angels for Sight Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit community-based eye clinic, is dedicated and committed to providing free vision screenings, eye examinations and glasses to the uninsured and underserved individuals who otherwise would not have access to suchservices.

Description

Angels for Sight was incorporated in 2004 by Shea Hamilton and officially opened its doors in February of 2007. As the former Director of Community Outreach for the Los Angeles Eye Institute "LAEI" for more than seven years, Ms. Hamilton created the business case and eventually convinced the executive staff of LAEI to launch a mobile vision screening program for children. The highly successful program in partnership with LensCrafters Foundation screened more than 40,000 children and provided full eye examinations and glasses for more than 25% of those children. When the "LAEI" strategically decided to go a different business direction by closing the program, Ms. Hamilton recognized an opportunity to create a viable solution which would continue to meet the needs of this underserved community. The vision of Angels forSight became reality when Ms. Hamilton approached the City of Compton and requested real estate space in which she could continue this mission. As a significant vote of confidence in Angels for Sight’s mission, the Compton City Council agreed to a 30-year lease at a very minimal amount for a 1,352 square facility located at 920 N. Alameda Street in Compton. With tens of thousands dollars of in-kind services and equipment provided to the project from scores of supporters, and with more than $75,000 of her own monies obtained by refinancing her home, Ms. Hamilton has renovated and furnished this now state-of-art facility to serve the eye care needs of uninsured individuals. To date, Angels for Sight has provided vision screening to over 5,025 and provided eye examinations and glasses to approximately 750 at no cost.
